Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana I Prep "One Legged King Pigeon Pose I Prep"

Pronunciation: (eh-kuh pah-dah RAH-juh kah-po-TAHS-ah-nuh)

Also called:

  • Pigeon Pose
  • One Leg Pigeon
  • Eka Pada Rajakapotasana

Level:

  • Beginner

Chakra:

Benefits: This is a wonderful hip opener. Stretches the legs, glutes, abdomen, shoulders, chest, and neck.  As your heart opens the shoulders and chest are stretched.

How it's done:

  • Begin in a table position
  • Move your right knee up to your right hand.
  • Bring the right foot towards your left hand.
    • If you are really loose, your foot may meet your hand.
    • If you are tight, your foot may feel best near the left side of your pelvis
  • Your right hip should be as close to the floor as possible.  If you find that your hip is tight, then use a block or towel for your hip to rest.  This will help to reduce stress on the right knee.
  • Rotate your left thigh inwards so that the top of your foot is resting flat on the floor.
  • Keep your back straight when upwards, or if you fold over your right leg...no slouching
